When a Building Inspector attends to a building they do a full inspection including: All internal areas – every room, including storage areas etc. Inside the roof space (sometimes called roof void or cavity) Underneath the floor (unless it's a concrete slab) On the roof of single storey buildings, prior arrangements should be made if you want 2+ storey roofs inspected for safety reasons. All external areas The site – e.g.: decks, fencing, carports, etc. What Qualifications do Building Inspectors have? All Building Inspectors meet competency requirements under the new WHS regulations and are qualified to identify, document and take samples of suspected asbestos containing materials. All inspectors are fully insured including public liability and professional indemnity insurance for this service. As Building and Asbestos Inspectors operate nationally there are a range of specific qualifications that they hold, ranging from Asbestos removal licenses to specific training programs in Site Inspection and assessment associated with removal. When is Asbestos Inspection done? In almost all cases, a Building Inspector can get an Asbestos Inspection done within 24-48 hours. If samples are taken, lab results may be made available within 24 hours during the work week by specific request, but generally take 2-3 days. When is the Report submitted? After the Inspection you should expect to receive the report within 24 hours at most, unless sampling is involved, in which case it will take 2-3 days. There are occasionally times when it may take longer to get your report, but the Building Inspector will let you know if this happens.
